Officially Throwing Away Boxed Brownies

I have always been a BIG fan of boxed brownies. There were countless days in elementary school that I came home from school and made myself a pan. They are the only dessert that I preferred to use the box mix for and never thought I'd switch to homemade for this. These brownies - Claire's Malted Forever Brownies - have completely changed my mind.

They are a gooey, fudgey, full of melty chocolate and topped with sea salt for the perfect bite. The malted milk powder adds a different edge to these that you can't quite put your finger on. It was worth making a special purchase for the milk powder alone, but I'm happy I went the extra mile of buying dark Dutch-processed cocoa to round these out. Worth the shipping costs for sure!

Making these is definitely more steps than your average box mix, but not so much that I can't make them when I get home from work (aka step out of our second bedroom turned office). I'm already planning on bringing these to the first potluck I can post-pandemic. But, while we're still at home I'll continue making these to help melt away the constant anxiety and impending doom that I've felt since March, dreaming of the day when I can finally share these outside of my apartment.
